The meetings come as Cairo steps up diplomatic engagement with key international partners to help contain escalating conflict in the Middle East and reinforce coordination with Washington on regional security and political issues.

During the meetings, Abdelatty praised the “special nature” of relations between Washington and Cairo, which span more than four decades, and highlighted ongoing engagement with Congress, underscoring Egypt’s role in supporting regional stability.

He pointed to growing momentum in bilateral ties and stressed shared interest in expanding economic, trade, and investment cooperation, including efforts to attract more US investment to Egypt.

On regional developments, Abdelatty reviewed the current situation in the Middle East and the trajectory of the US–Iran negotiations, outlining Egypt’s efforts to de-escalate the conflict through intensive contacts with various parties to restore calm.

The minister also detailed Egypt’s position on the Palestinian issue, including developments in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, as well as ongoing efforts to support peace and stability.

In his meeting with Risch, Abdelatty invited the senator to visit Egypt, which he welcomed. Risch also expressed appreciation for President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi’s efforts to promote regional peace.

In talks with Scalise, Abdelatty reaffirmed the importance of the Egypt–US strategic partnership as a pillar of regional security and development. Scalise, in turn, asked that his greetings be conveyed to President El-Sisi and praised Egypt’s role in supporting stability.

The discussions also covered broader regional issues, including the situation in Lebanon. Abdelatty reiterated that negotiations remain the most effective path to resolving ongoing conflicts, highlighting Egypt’s coordination with regional partners to contain the crisis.

Earlier in the day, FM Abdelatty discussed the US–Iran ceasefire, a proposed Gaza plan, and efforts to end the conflict in Sudan during talks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Rubio said in a post on X that the two sides also reviewed a “20-point plan for Gaza” and explored ways to strengthen US–Egypt economic and commercial ties, underscoring the breadth of coordination between the two countries.

The meetings come at a sensitive moment for regional diplomacy, as efforts to revive negotiations between the United States and Iran have faced repeated setbacks, raising concerns over further escalation across the Middle East.

In recent weeks, Egypt has intensified its diplomatic outreach, positioning itself as a key mediator that seeks to contain tensions and maintain open communication channels between rival parties. Egyptian officials have maintained continuous contact with regional and international actors, including Gulf states, Iran, and Western partners, to prevent the situation from escalating into a broader confrontation.
