The meetings come amid heightened instability across the Middle East, with Egypt positioning itself as a key interlocutor with regional and international partners on containing conflicts, particularly in Gaza, Lebanon, and Sudan, as well as efforts to revive stalled diplomatic tracks.

FM Abdelatty met with US House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Brian Mast as part of a broader round of talks with members of Congress during his visit to Washington.

During the meeting, the foreign minister underscored Egypt’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the committee in support of the longstanding Egyptian-American strategic partnership, highlighting coordination across political, economic, security, and military spheres.

The discussions covered a range of regional issues, including ongoing military escalation, Egypt’s efforts to contain conflicts, developments in the Palestinian issue, and the situations in Lebanon and Sudan. Talks also addressed Egypt’s water security, with Abdelatty outlining Cairo’s position.

Mast, for his part, expressed support for the bilateral partnership and praised Egypt’s role in promoting peace and stability in the Middle East.

Abdelatty also met with Gregory Meeks, the ranking member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, to discuss strengthening cooperation and maintaining close coordination with Congress.

During the meeting, FM Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s efforts to support security and stability in the Middle East and Africa, stressing that the partnership with Washington remains a cornerstone in addressing regional challenges.

He pointed to the growing range of threats facing the region, underscoring the responsibility of regional states to safeguard national security and maintain regional and international peace.

Meeks praised Egypt’s stabilizing role and expressed hope for deeper cooperation between the two countries.

Separately, Abdelatty participated in a high-level panel discussion on the Palestinian issue at the World Bank headquarters, alongside senior international officials, to coordinate efforts to support the Palestinians and address the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

In his remarks, Abdelatty warned that escalating regional crises risk diverting international attention from Gaza’s deteriorating humanitarian conditions, stressing the need to sustain focus and intensify joint efforts to de-escalate the conflict.

He also called for enabling the national committee tasked with administering Gaza to begin operating from within the strip, as a step toward restoring full governance by the Palestinian Authority. He urged the swift deployment of an international stabilization force.

The foreign minister emphasized the need to prioritize projects with immediate impact on the ground, including the provision of medical supplies, construction materials, desalination facilities, mobile power stations, and temporary housing, to help make Gaza livable during the transitional phase.

He further highlighted the expanded role of national Red Crescent and Red Cross societies, particularly the Egyptian Red Crescent, noting their contribution to both humanitarian assistance and early recovery efforts and calling for greater support to sustain these activities.

Egypt’s latest diplomatic push in Washington comes as Cairo intensifies a multi-track mediation effort aimed at containing one of the most volatile regional escalations in years, leveraging its longstanding ties with Washington, regional Arab capitals, Iran, and Palestinian factions.

Egyptian officials have also maintained active coordination with Gulf partners, Iraq, and international actors, advocating for a return to negotiations between Washington and Tehran as a key pathway to de-escalation.
