The visit, coordinated by the Romanian Embassy in Cairo, begins Friday, 17 April at the university's El Shorouk City campus, where the prince will take part in the university's annual Sustainable Development Goals marathon.

Now in its fourth year, the event—run in partnership with the UN Development Program—is described as the largest thematic run in Egypt, and this year focuses on job creation and expanding opportunities for young people in the labour market.

Ministers, ambassadors and senior government officials are expected to attend. The university will also use the occasion to present its newly launched Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management.

On Sunday, Radu will deliver a lecture to students on Romania's role as a bridge between the European Union and the Mediterranean region, touching on development and international cooperation.

"The lecture will explore themes of development and international cooperation.” A statement released by the BUE on Thursday quoted the prince as saying.

“Our countries cultivate dialogue, stability and security in our part of the world, economic and military co-operation, multilateral diplomacy, as well as a solid tradition in education and social projects," he noted.

The visit falls in a year marking 120 years of diplomatic relations between Romania and Egypt.

Romania's ambassador to Egypt, Olivia Toderean, said the occasion offered a chance to connect that history with "the energy and aspirations of the young generation," the statement added.

For his part, the university's president, Professor Mohamed Loutfi, said the visit reflected an institutional commitment to preparing graduates who are "globally aware and socially responsible."
