Speaking to Odile Renaud-Basso, president of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Abdelatty praised the strong partnership between Egypt and the bank, highlighting its role in supporting the country’s development priorities and economic reform efforts.
He welcomed the EBRD’s plans to expand its operations in Egypt and explore making Cairo a regional hub, noting this would help attract further foreign investment.
The Egyptian FM emphasized growing confidence in Egypt’s economy, as reflected in the bank’s recent portfolio expansion, and expressed hope for increased EBRD activity in 2026, particularly in priority sectors such as energy and exports.
He also attributed Egypt’s ability to withstand regional economic shocks to the structural and monetary reforms it undertook and proactive measures to secure additional resources.
Separately, Abdelatty met with senior officials from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), including First Senior Vice President Hara and Middle East and Europe Director General Kotaro Tanaka.
He commended ongoing cooperation with Japan, particularly in development projects, and called for expanded collaboration in green transformation, artificial intelligence, digitalization, and industrial localization.
Moreover, the Egyptian FM highlighted the success of Egyptian–Japanese schools and praised the collaboration with the Egypt–Japan University of Science and Technology. He also stressed the importance of developing skilled human capital in engineering and technology.
Additionally, Abdelatty urged greater Japanese investments in Egypt. He called for exploiting Egypt's potential to become a hub for diversified production and supply chains, especially following the recent economic reforms the country has undertaken and the investment incentives it provides.
Similarly, Abdelatty held discussions with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Administrator Alexander De Croo. He reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to the goals of sustainable development, praising ongoing cooperation under the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (2023–2027).
The talks also addressed fast-moving regional developments and their impact on global trade, energy security, and food supply chains.
Abdelatty stressed the importance of intensified international efforts to contain regional crises and mitigate their repercussions, while reiterating Egypt’s diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions.
He further highlighted the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, calling for sustained support for the Palestinian cause and accelerated recovery and reconstruction efforts in the enclave.
For his part, the UNDP chief commended Egypt’s economic reforms and development progress, noting improvements in infrastructure, social protection, and education.
He also praised Egypt’s role in promoting regional stability and hosting millions of refugees, reaffirming the programme’s commitment to supporting Egypt’s sustainable development efforts and easing the burden of hosting refugees.
Abdelatty concluded his meetings by emphasizing the importance of advancing ongoing cooperation projects with international partners to support Egypt’s economic development and shared interests.
