The call came hours after US President Donald Trump announced on 16 April a 10-day ceasefire agreement aimed at de-escalating cross-border tensions between Lebanon and Israel.
During the call, Salam expressed appreciation—on behalf of the Lebanese government and people—for Egypt’s continued efforts to support Lebanon’s sovereignty and stability. He also praised Cairo’s role in regional de-escalation efforts that contributed to the truce.
In return, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s longstanding position in support of Lebanon’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. He also welcomed the US ceasefire announcement, describing it as an important step towards calming tensions and reinforcing regional security and stability.
The Egyptian FM also stressed the importance of building on the truce to prevent renewed escalation. He underscored Cairo’s commitment to diplomatic solutions and continued coordination with regional and international partners to contain the crisis.
