In an official statement, the Egyptian government said the agreement to halt hostilities in Lebanon represents an important opportunity to reduce tensions and stop Israeli military operations, which have heightened instability along the border between Lebanon and Israel.

According to the statement, Egypt emphasized the need for Israel to fully adhere to the ceasefire and halt all military actions against Lebanon.

Moreover, Egypt, the statement continued, urged complete Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory and the unselective implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, deeming the resolution the basis for restoring calm and stability.

According to the statement, Cairo also reiterated its longstanding position of unwavering support for Lebanon's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.

Egypt further called on the international community to assume its responsibilities to ensure that the ceasefire holds and enable the delivery of humanitarian aid and the safe return of displaced civilians to their homes.

The truce, announced by US President Donald Trump on Thursday, 16 April, comes amid escalating cross-border hostilities and growing fears of a wider regional confrontation. Egyptian officials have repeatedly emphasized the importance of diplomatic efforts to contain the crisis and prevent further escalation.

Cairo reaffirmed its commitment to supporting all initiatives aimed at achieving lasting stability in Lebanon and the broader region.
