During talks with Senator David McCormick, chairman of the Middle East, South Asia, Central Asia, and Counterterrorism Subcommittee of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Abdelatty discussed ways to advance political and economic cooperation between Egypt and the US.
The foreign minister stressed the importance of continued engagement with the US Congress to support bilateral relations and shared interests. He extended an invitation to McCormick to visit Egypt as the two countries prepare for the second edition of the Egyptian-American Economic Forum scheduled for later this year.
Moreover, Abdelatty reviewed Egypt’s ongoing efforts to promote security and stability in the Middle East. He highlighted Cairo’s diplomatic role in containing regional tensions and discussed key regional issues, including developments in Gaza, Lebanon, and Sudan.
Separately, the Egyptian FM met with Senator Chris Van Hollen, who sits on both the Senate's Foreign Relations and Appropriations committees. During his meeting with Van Hollen, Abdelatty emphasized that relations between Egypt and the US, especially in trade and investment, have gained momentum recently. Egypt, he stated, remained committed to resolving conflicts through diplomatic means and preserving nations' sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national institutions.
In return, the two senators expressed appreciation for Egypt’s active diplomatic role supporting regional stability and de-escalation. They praised Cairo’s balanced approach to foreign policy and its contributions to advancing peace efforts in the Middle East.
