During a meeting with Housing Minister Randa El-Menshawy and senior officials, the government said it had launched the first phase of a programme allowing private developers to build subsidised housing units, starting with 17,000 homes across eight new cities.

The talks also covered broader housing plans, including the construction of about 220,000 units for middle- and upper-middle-income buyers and 130,000 high-end homes as part of ongoing national projects, such as the Housing for All Egyptians initiative.

Officials reviewed progress on the Haya Karima (Decent Life) initiative, a flagship rural development programme. El-Sisi called for completing the first phase within the year and prioritizing wastewater treatment projects in the next stage.

Discussions extended to coastal development along the Mediterranean and Red Sea, including projects in Marina and New Alamein City, where construction is underway on beachfront towers, the Latin Quarter, and a planned conference and exhibition centre.

The government also outlined a new rental housing scheme, with an initial phase of 10,000 units, as part of efforts to expand access to housing and address long-standing issues in the rental market.

Other projects discussed included the Great Transfiguration development in Saint Catherine.

El-Sisi called for stricter timelines for completing projects and closer monitoring of implementation, as the government pushes ahead with large-scale urban expansion and infrastructure development.
