The talks come as Cairo intensifies diplomatic efforts to contain regional tensions. They also coincide with Egypt's attempt, alongside other mediators, to give impetus to US-Iran negotiations, including potential preparations for an upcoming round of direct talks between the US and Iran.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Tamim Khalaf said the consultations addressed ways to strengthen relations between Egypt and Kuwait and enhance coordination on regional and international issues.
The two sides also praised the historical and fraternal relations between Egypt and Kuwait. They emphasized expanding cooperation across multiple sectors to support development and prosperity in both countries.
Moreover, Abdelatty and Al-Sabah stated that they looked forward to convening the 14th session of the Egypt–Kuwait joint committee before the end of the year to advance bilateral cooperation.
Similarly, the Egyptian FM underscored the need to enhance trilateral cooperation in Africa in coordination with the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development and the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development.
Regionally, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s firm support for Kuwait, condemning attacks targeting its security and stability and rejecting any attempts to undermine its sovereignty.
He also discussed efforts to de-escalate regional tensions, emphasizing that the security of Gulf countries must be part of any future regional arrangements.
Additionally, Abdelatty called for stronger Arab coordination to address current challenges.
In return, the Kuwaiti FM expressed appreciation for Egypt’s support, praising Cairo’s central role in promoting regional security and stability, as well as its continued efforts to de-escalate tensions and reinforce Arab solidarity.
During his recent visit to Washington, Abdelatty coordinated with US officials and lawmakers on Gaza, Red Sea security, and the trajectory of US-Iran negotiations.
Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan have developed a quadrilateral mechanism for coordination on preventing further escalation and addressing spillover risks to energy markets, maritime navigation, and regional security in the aftermath of Israel's genocidal war on Gaza and the US-Israeli war on Iran.
The Quad held its latest ministerial meeting in Antalya, Turkey, on 17 April.
