Valeo, a global technology firm, provides solutions and systems for the automotive industry, focusing on electric vehicle technologies, assistive systems, and lighting and interface design.
The new centre will house over 200 AI experts globally, alongside a specialized AI research unit.
Starting initially with more than 50 engineers, the centre plans to expand to over 100 specialists, the company said in a statement. No details on the investment or timeline were disclosed.
The centre aims to expedite AI-based solutions across Valeo’s subsidiaries, Valeo Egypt’s software production, and Egypt’s automotive sector, boosting productivity and developing advanced essential tools to update smart mobility software.
Valeo CEO Christophe Périllat said the initiative will help reinforce Egypt’s position as a global research and development (R&D) hub, focusing on AI integration in engineering activities, particularly software development.
Valeo Egypt, established in 2005, is the largest R&D provider in North Africa and within the Valeo Group. It accounts for around 50 percent of Valeo’s global software production, with 35 percent of all validated software code using AI as of the first quarter of 2026.
Egyptian Communications and Information Technology Minister Raafat Hindy said the centre is part of Egypt’s strategy to become a regional hub for attracting global investment for software development.
Under its digital transformation strategy, Egypt targets attracting and generating around $42.7 billion in AI-related investments, with AI accounting for 7.7 percent of GDP by 2030.
