The pivotal game could place the White Knights within touching distance of reclaiming the Egyptian Premier League crown while piling further strain on their title rivals.
Zamalek currently sit atop the league standings with 46 points, holding a narrow two-point lead over both Pyramids FC and arch-rivals Ahly, who are tied on 44 points.
Under coach Motamed Gamal, Zamalek head into the tie in formidable form, remaining unbeaten in their last five outings across all competitions and have lost just once in their previous ten matches, registering seven wins and two draws.
The White Knights are also buoyed by their recent continental success, having cruised past Algerian side CR Belouizdad in the CAF Confederation Cup semi-finals with a 1-0 aggregate victory, setting up a showdown against USM Alger as they chase a third continental title.
The Cairo giants are expected to rely on the creative spark of veteran playmaker Abdallah El-Said against his former employers.
Upfront, the form of Nasser Mansi, Palestinian forward Oday Dabbagh, and Brazilian talisman Juan Bezerra will be crucial in breaking down a disciplined Pyramids backline.
In a boost for the hosts, midfielder Mohamed Shehata returns to the squad after serving a two-match suspension.
Pyramids FC, meanwhile, seek to leapfrog the leaders and maintain their own momentum in the title race, as the big spenders are also looking for redemption following their CAF Champions League exit at the hands of Morocco’s AS FAR in the quarter-finals.
However, Pyramids coach Krunoslav Jurčić faces a selection headache following a recent spate of injuries, as key trio Mostafa Fathy, Mohamed Hamdy, and Mahmoud Marie have all been ruled out of the clash.
To further complicate matters for the Croatian tactician, Palestinian midfielder Hamed Hemdan is also sidelined due to suspension.
On a more positive note, Moroccan right-back Mohamed Chibi and winger Mahmoud Zalaka have been passed fit after recovering from their respective injuries.
Zamalek hold the upper hand in the historical head-to-head record between the two sides, as they have emerged victorious in 11 of their 26 encounters across all competitions since 2014, suffering only four defeats, while 11 matches ended in draws.
Their most recent Premier League meeting in March saw Zamalek claim a narrow 1-0 victory.
