During a phone call, the Egyptian FM reviewed Cairo’s ongoing efforts and contacts aimed at advancing and supporting the diplomatic and negotiating track, stressing that negotiation and dialogue are the only way to resolve the current conflict and to spare the region the dangers of further instability.
According to the Egyptian foreign ministry, both sides also addressed the situation in Gaza, where Abdelatty stressed that the current regional escalation must not distract from the need to complete all commitments of the second phase of US President Donald Trump’s plan.
These commitments, he noted, include the deployment of an international stabilization force, ensuring unhindered access for humanitarian aid, and launching early recovery and reconstruction programmes.
He also warned of dangerous developments in the West Bank amid continued Israeli violations, escalating military operations, and settlement expansion.
Regarding Lebanon, the Egyptian FM reaffirmed Cairo’s firm position supporting respect for Lebanon’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, calling for a complete halt to Israeli attacks and supporting the empowerment of Lebanese national institutions, foremost among them the army, while welcoming the recently announced ceasefire.
Abdelatty and Berendsen also addressed the Sudanese war, where Egypt’s top diplomat stressed the importance of preserving Sudan’s unity and territorial integrity and safeguarding its national institutions, while reviewing efforts to reach a humanitarian truce paving the way for a ceasefire.
For his part, the Dutch FM praised Egypt’s role in supporting regional stability and its efforts to contain the current escalation in the region, commending the Egyptian leadership’s wisdom in handling ongoing developments.
According to the Egyptian foreign ministry, the call touched on bilateral ties between Cairo and Amsterdam, where Abdelatty expressed aspiration to strengthen bilateral relations across various fields.
He highlighted the importance of leveraging promising opportunities to boost economic ties and enhance Dutch investments in Egypt, particularly in new economic zones and major national projects.
The Egyptian FM also stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest, especially migration and water management, praising the Netherlands’ support for Egypt within various European Union institutions.
For his part, the Dutch FM welcomed the momentum in bilateral relations at different levels and the shared commitment to further strengthening them, as well as the mutual desire to expand cooperation to broader horizons.
Both sides agreed to continue coordination and consultations on various related developments to support security and stability in the region.
