Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced on Friday that he will embark on a regional tour including Pakistan, Oman, and Russia, as Tehran seeks to consolidate coordination with key partners amid heightened regional tensions.

“Embarking on timely tour of Islamabad, Muscat, and Moscow,” Araghchi wrote on X, adding that the purpose of the visits is to “closely coordinate with our partners on bilateral matters and consult on regional developments.”

“Our neighbors are our priority,” he added.

The trip will take Araghchi to Islamabad, Muscat, and Moscow—three capitals that have played varying diplomatic roles in recent weeks, particularly in the context of ongoing tensions between the US and Iran.

The announcement comes shortly after Araghchi held a series of high-level phone calls, including with Pakistan’s army chief Asim Munir, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Nechirvan Barzani, president of Iraq’s autonomous Kurdistan region.

Pakistan has emerged as a central mediator in efforts to revive negotiations between Tehran and Washington following the outbreak of the US-Israeli war on Iran in late February. However, talks have stalled since an initial round held on 11 April in Islamabad.

Tensions have escalated further in recent days, with Tehran accusing the United States of breaching a ceasefire through actions including the blockade of Iranian ports and the seizure of vessels.

Iranian officials have warned against negotiating under pressure, while the country’s Revolutionary Guards have threatened to target vessels attempting to pass through the strategic Strait of Hormuz without authorization.

Oman has historically acted as a quiet intermediary between Iran and Western powers, while Russia remains a key political and military ally of Tehran.

Araghchi’s tour is expected to focus on aligning positions with these partners.
