Egypt FM discusses de-escalating regional tensions, economic ties with Brazil, Canada counterparts

Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty held separate phone calls on Friday with Brazil’s Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira and Canada’s Foreign Minister Anita Anand to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral economic relations and exchange views on key regional developments.

During his call with Mauro Vieira, Abdelatty stressed Egypt’s commitment to strengthening ties with Brazil, particularly in trade and investment, and expanding access for Egyptian products in the Brazilian market.

The two ministers also discussed regional developments, including US-Iran talks, with Abdelatty reaffirming Egypt’s support for continued negotiations to secure a ceasefire, reduce tensions, and safeguard international navigation.

He also praised Brazil’s stance on Palestinian rights and called for advancing the next phase of the US-proposed plan by Donald Trump, alongside ensuring the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid. Vieira, in turn, commended Egypt’s role in promoting regional stability.

In a separate call with Anita Anand, Abdelatty highlighted the strength of Egypt-Canada relations and encouraged increased Canadian investment, particularly in energy, agriculture, and water sectors.

He also reviewed Egypt’s efforts to contain regional tensions, reiterating support for diplomatic solutions and US-Iran negotiations.

On Palestine, he stressed the need to implement the next phase of the US plan, activate Gaza’s administrative committee, deploy an international stabilization force, and halt Israeli violations in the West Bank.

Anand praised Egypt’s efforts to promote regional stability and peaceful conflict resolution.

Anand, for her part, expressed appreciation for Egypt’s active role in supporting regional stability, commending Cairo’s efforts to contain crises and advance peaceful settlement processes.

Canada and Brazil have both emphasized the need for de-escalation and diplomatic solutions to the conflict between the US and Iran. Ottawa has ruled out participation in offensive military operations. Brasília has condemned the US-Israeli war on Iran strikes, calling for dialogue and respect for international law
