The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has declared its full support for Gianni Infantino’s re-election as FIFA president in 2027, citing confidence in his leadership and vision for global football.

In a statement, the EFA said it “completely endorses” Infantino for a new term, highlighting his forward-looking approach and role in advancing the game worldwide.

EFA President Hany Abo Rida formalised the backing in a letter to FIFA’s Secretary General, praising development programmes that have strengthened governance, transparency, and technical support for national associations.

The endorsement also reflects close ties between Egyptian football authorities and FIFA leadership. Infantino has made several visits to Cairo, most recently in March 2025 for the Confederation of African Football (CAF) General Assembly, where he was received by Abo Rida and government officials at Sphinx International Airport.

Abo Rida, a FIFA Council member since 2009, is regarded as one of Infantino’s most longstanding allies in the region.

Egypt’s position aligns with growing regional support for Infantino ahead of an anticipated bid for the 2027–2031 term.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) both pledged their backing this week following meetings in Vancouver, representing a combined 101 votes in FIFA’s 211-member electorate.

South America’s governing body, CONMEBOL, has also committed its 10 votes to Infantino.

Infantino, who took office in 2016 following the corruption scandal that led to Sepp Blatter’s departure, has been re-elected twice, in 2019 and 2023.

Despite FIFA statutes limiting presidents to three terms, the organisation ruled that his initial partial term from 2016 to 2019 does not count, allowing him to stand again.

During his tenure, FIFA has recorded significant financial growth. This year’s World Cup is projected to generate $13 billion in revenue, enabling the organisation to pledge $2.7 billion in development funding for the 2027–2030 cycle.

However, Infantino has faced criticism over reforms such as expanding the World Cup to 48 teams and over perceived political ties.
