The call took place one day after Iran had delivered a new proposal for talks with the US to end the war via mediator Pakistan.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran delivered the text of its latest negotiating proposal to Pakistan, as the mediator in talks with the United States, on Thursday evening," the official Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) news agency reported, without elaborating.
However, the White House declined to comment on the proposal, saying only that discussions continue.
"We do not detail private diplomatic conversations," deputy press secretary Anna Kelly said in a statement sent to AFP.
Kelly affirmed that US President Donald Trump has been clear that Iran can never possess a nuclear weapon, adding that negotiations continue to ensure the short- and long-term national security of the US.
During the call, Abdelatty stressed the importance of intensifying efforts to support the US-Iran negotiation track, reach a political settlement, and avoid war.
He emphasized the need to adhere to the negotiation approach and continue efforts aimed at reaching understandings among the concerned parties, in a way that ensures consolidating the one-month ceasefire, ending the war, and easing regional tensions.
For his part, Witkoff praised Egypt’s role in supporting efforts to de-escalate regional tensions, looking forward to ongoing coordination and consultation in the coming period.
Abdelatty's call comes as part of Cairo's intensive mediation efforts, along with regional partners, to resume talks between Tehran and Washington and end the US-Israeli three-month war on Iran.
