During the meeting, the Egyptian FM affirmed Cairo’s firm rejection of Israel’s blatant violations of Syrian sovereignty, reiterating Egypt’s full condemnation of these actions.
Abdelatty further stressed the necessity for Israel to adhere to the 1974 Disengagement Agreement, emphasizing Egypt’s consistent position supporting the end of the Israeli occupation of the Syrian Golan Heights.
He affirmed that Egypt’s stance on the Syrian crisis since its outbreak has been based on clear principles aimed at sincerely supporting efforts to restore security and stability, while preserving Syria’s unity and the cohesion of its national fabric.
The Egyptian FM reiterated Cairo’s support for the legitimate aspirations of the Syrian people in all their components, emphasizing full respect for Syria’s sovereignty, unity, stability, and territorial integrity.
He stressed the importance of preserving Syrian national state institutions and rejecting any external interference in its internal affairs, in a way that meets the Syrian people’s legitimate aspirations for comprehensive internal stability.
Abdelatty underlined the need to intensify efforts to combat terrorism and extremism in all its forms, address the issue of foreign fighters, and ensure that Syria becomes a source of stability.
According to the Egyptian foreign ministry, both ministers also discussed rapidly evolving regional developments, including the course of US-Iran negotiations and ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions.
They also addressed the situation in Lebanon, where Abdelatty stressed the importance of joint regional and international efforts to spare the region the risks of sliding into broader conflicts and establish regional security and stability.
The meeting, attended by Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem and Syrian Minister of Economy and Industry Mohamed Nedal Alchaar, also addressed ways to strengthen bilateral ties.
The Egyptian FM emphasized the deep historical, popular, and cultural ties between Cairo and Damascus, noting that this shared heritage reflects the alignment of the two peoples’ will throughout history.
