In a statement, the Egyptian foreign ministry stressed Cairo’s categorical rejection of any external interference in Bahrain’s internal affairs.
The ministry further reaffirmed Egypt’s firm and consistent position that the security and stability of Bahrain and the Arab Gulf states are an extension and an integral part of Egypt’s national security.
The statement comes days after Bahrain revoked the citizenship of 69 individuals for their support of Iran amid Tehran’s retaliatory attacks on American military bases in the Gulf states following the war the US and Israel waged on the country.
In a statement, the Bahraini interior ministry listed the individuals stripped of their citizenship and their dependents. It added that they were found guilty of supporting hostile Iranian acts and colluding with foreign entities.
In return, Iran's foreign ministry spokesperson condemned what he described as the Bahraini government’s “inhumane punishments,” including mass revocation of citizenship.
The Bahraini foreign ministry soon dismissed these remarks as a blatant and unacceptable interference in the internal affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain and a violation of the principles of sovereignty and non-interference.
Bahrain's move comes as Gulf countries are on high alert over Iranian infiltration, with Qatar, Kuwait, and the UAE cracking down on Iran-related networks.
