Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty participated in the bank’s 50th annual meeting of the Board of Governors, held virtually on Monday as part of the joint meetings of Arab financial institutions.

Abdelatty attended in his capacity as Egypt’s bank governor.

Egypt’s re-election to one of the two non-permanent board seats was confirmed during the meeting, alongside approval for Egypt to chair the board’s meeting in 2027.

Abdelatty said the selection reflects Arab countries' confidence in Egypt’s leading role and its ability to advance joint Arab action to serve mutual interests.

The minister also expressed pride in Egypt’s hosting of BADEA meetings in 2024, affirming Cairo’s continued full support for the institution through its roles in both the Board of Governors and the Board of Directors.

He noted that such engagement contributes to strengthening cooperation and promoting stability and development across Africa.

Abdelatty further praised BADEA’s role in financing development projects in African countries and enhancing economic ties between Arab states and the continent.

He highlighted the bank’s contributions to technical support, private-sector capacity building, and the promotion of intra-Arab African trade.

The minister also expressed Egypt’s aspiration to deepen cooperation with BADEA to boost trade flows between Egypt and African nations, in coordination with Egyptian banking institutions and with the participation of the domestic private sector.
