Egypt, Somalia FMs hold talks on boosting strategic partnership

Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty held a phone call on Tuesday with Somali Foreign Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali to discuss the latest developments in Somalia and ways to enhance bilateral relations and coordination.

During the call, Abdelatty praised the growing momentum in Egyptian–Somali ties, reaffirming Egypt’s full support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Somalia, as well as the preservation of its national institutions.

According to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, he stressed Cairo’s firm rejection of any unilateral measures that could undermine Somalia’s territorial unity or sovereignty.

In this context, he condemned Israel’s reported recognition of Somaliland, describing it as a blatant violation of international law, the UN Charter, and the Constitutive Act of the African Union.

Abdelatty also underscored Egypt’s commitment to continuing political, security, and capacity-building support for Somalia through training programs offered by Egyptian national institutions.

He highlighted the importance of securing adequate and sustainable funding for the African Union mission in Somalia to enable it to effectively carry out its mandate.

For his part, the Somali foreign minister reviewed the latest internal developments in Somalia and efforts by the government to strengthen security, stability, and state institutions.

He expressed appreciation for Egypt’s continued support at all levels, affirming Somalia’s keenness to further deepen cooperation with Cairo in a way that serves the interests of both nations and promotes stability in the Horn of Africa.

Both ministers agreed to maintain close coordination and consultation in the coming period to support security and stability in Somalia, the Horn of Africa, and the Red Sea region, while advancing the strategic partnership between the two countries.
