EGYPTIAN para rower Malak Ghoneim delivered an outstanding performance at the Para Rowing Regatta Championship held in France from 2-4 May, securing two silver medals in the PR1 women’s single sculls. Ghoneim’s achievement reflects the continued progress of Egyptian para rowing on the international stage, following strong preparation and development within the national programme.

Meanwhile, teammate Alaa Hassan also showed notable improvement, finishing seventh in the first race among 14 boats, just five seconds behind the German Paralympian ranked seventh at Paris 2024, and fifth in the second race, under the guidance of coach Saher Refaat after an intensive training camp at the Olympic venue in Paris.

Sherif Al-Qamati, president of the Egyptian Rowing Federation, praised the team’s performance. “We are proud of every achievement accomplished by our athletes, especially in para rowing, which has witnessed significant development in Egypt. What Malak Ghoneim has achieved is the result of serious and continuous preparation by the federation and coaching staff, reflecting the success of our plans to support athletes with disabilities.”

Al-Qamati added that Egypt continues to present inspiring models in para sports, describing the success as a promising step toward further achievements at both regional and international levels.
