Hussein El Shahat opened the scoring after eight minutes with a solo effort, while Ahmed “Zizo” Sayed doubled the lead from the penalty spot in the 20th minute.

Achraf Bencharki added a third two minutes into the second half.

Ahly remain third on 50 points, three behind leaders Zamalek, who defeated Smouha 1-0 on the same day to ensure the title race goes down to the final matchday.

Pyramids FC are second on 51 points after being held to a 1-1 draw by Ceramica Cleopatra.

Ahly named almost an unchanged side from the Cairo derby win over Zamalek on Friday, with Ahmed “Zizo” Sayed starting in place of injured winger Mahmoud “Trezeguet” Hassan.

They dominated from the outset and took an early lead through El Shahat, who latched onto a fine pass from Bencharki and fired into the top corner.

The hosts maintained their pressure and were awarded a penalty when El Shahat was fouled inside the area, allowing Zizo to convert confidently.

Coach Jess Thorup was forced into an early change, bringing on Mohamed Hani for the injured Ahmed Ramadan in the 25th minute.

Bencharki missed a clear chance just before halftime, shooting over from close range after being set up by Emam Ashour.

Enppi were awarded a penalty in first-half stoppage time, but the decision was overturned following a VAR review for a prior foul by defender Ahmed Kalosha.

The visitors also had a goal ruled out for offside after another VAR check deep into stoppage time.

Thorup made a halftime substitution, introducing Aliou Dieng for El Shahat, who had picked up a shoulder injury.

Bencharki extended the lead early in the second half, finishing from close range after a precise assist from Emam Ashour.

Enppi pushed for a response, but Ahly’s defense held firm, with goalkeeper Mostafa Shobier producing a key save to deny Omar El Azab late on.

Ahly suffered a late injury setback when Ashour was forced off with a leg problem, leaving the hosts to finish with 10 men.

Ahly will conclude their league campaign on 20 May against Masry at Alexandria’s Borg El Arab Stadium.

They must win and hope for slip-ups from rivals Zamalek, who face Ceramica Cleopatra, and Pyramids FC, who take on Smouha on the same day.
