The convoy departed early Wednesday with several aid trucks heading toward Gaza under the ERC’s role as Egypt’s national mechanism for coordinating humanitarian assistance to the enclave.
According to the ERC, the shipment included food baskets, flour, medical supplies, relief materials, and petroleum products intended to operate hospitals and other critical facilities inside the Strip.
The organization also said it had reinforced support for displaced Palestinians by supplying essential items such as clothing, blankets, tarpaulins, and tents.
The ERC added that it has maintained a permanent presence at the border since the start of the war, stressing that the Rafah crossing on the Egyptian side has never been closed.
It said humanitarian operations have continued through its logistics hubs and volunteer network, with total aid delivered to Gaza surpassing 960,000 tonnes so far, thanks to the efforts of more than 65,000 volunteers.
Humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip continued to deteriorate this week despite an October 2025 ceasefire, as Israeli strikes killed several Palestinians, hospitals faced mounting shortages, and international mediators pushed to preserve the fragile truce.
Palestinian medics said Israeli strikes killed at least three people, including a 15-year-old child, in Gaza City and northern Gaza on Monday, according to Reuters. The incidents added to growing reports of ceasefire violations and sporadic violence across the enclave.
Gaza health authorities said more than 830 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire took effect, while the overall death toll from Israel’s war on Gaza since October 2023 has surpassed 72,500.
Meanwhile, the United Nations and humanitarian organizations warned that shortages of food, clean water, fuel, and medicines were deepening amid extensive infrastructure destruction. Aid agencies estimate that around 90 percent of Gaza’s water infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed during the war, leaving large sections of the population dependent on water trucks and emergency supplies.
Hospitals across the enclave remain under severe pressure due to dwindling fuel reserves and limited medical supplies, with healthcare workers warning of disruptions to surgeries, dialysis, and emergency care. Relief agencies have also warned of worsening sanitation conditions and overcrowded displacement camps, raising fears of disease outbreaks.
International attention has also focused on attempts to deliver aid to Gaza by sea after Israeli forces intercepted vessels linked to the “Global Sumud” flotilla carrying pro-Palestinian activists near Greece. Israeli authorities extended the detention of two activists until May 10, according to Reuters.
Prosecutors in Italy have opened a judicial investigation into the illegal detention and kidnapping of humanitarian activists after Israeli naval forces intercepted a Gaza-bound aid vessel in international waters, Palestinian news agency WAFA reported on Monday, citing Italian media.
