Iran has sent its response to a US proposal to end the war in the region via Pakistan, Iranian state media reported on Sunday.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran sent today through Pakistani mediators its response to the latest text proposed by the United States to end the war," the official IRNA news agency said, without offering details.

According to the proposed plan, the current phase of negotiations is focused at this stage exclusively on the cessation of hostilities, a source familiar with the matter told IRNA.

Broader issues are to be addressed in subsequent negotiations.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson had previously said that Tehran’s views and considerations regarding the US proposals would be transmitted once internal reviews and final conclusions were completed.

Pakistan brokered a ceasefire between Tehran and Washington on 8 April that halted nearly 40 days of joint US- Israel war on the Islamic Republic.

Washington has been awaiting Iran’s response to a new proposal for a deal to end the war, reopen the strait to shipping and roll back Iran’s nuclear program.

US President Donald Trump has reiterated threats to resume full-scale bombing if Iran doesn’t accept an agreement to reopen the strait and roll back its nuclear program.

The shaky ceasefire was tested again on Sunday when a drone set a small fire on a ship off the coast of Qatar, while the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait reported separate drones entering their airspaces.

The UAE blamed Iran for the latest attack, the latest threat to a month-old ceasefire, which the Trump administration says remains in effect.

Meanwhile, Iranian state television said earlier that the head of the military central command, Ali Abdollahi, had met with the country's supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei, who issued "new directives and guidance for the continuation of operations to confront the enemy."
