According to a statement by the foreign ministry, Egypt said the attack on commercial and civilian vessels represents a “flagrant violation” of international law and the principles of freedom of navigation.
Cairo warned that such incidents pose a serious threat to the security of international waterways and global commerce.
The statement also expressed that Egypt stands firmly in solidarity with Qatar and supports all Doha’s measures to safeguard its security, sovereignty, and maritime navigation.
Egypt further warned against the adverse impact of continued regional escalation on the security and stability of the Middle East.
On Sunday morning, a drone struck a commercial cargo vessel coming from Abu Dhabi in the UAE to Qatar. The vessel was targeted northeast of Qatar’s Mesaieed Port in the country’s regional waters.
“The incident caused a limited fire on board the vessel, with no reported injuries," the Qatari foreign ministry said on X.
