The free programme, to be held at the headquarters of the Holding Company for Maritime and Land Transport in Cairo, comes after the successful completion of the initiative’s first and second phases, which attracted large numbers of drivers from across the country, the ministry said.

The ministry said the programme will be held at the Holding Company for Maritime and Land Transport headquarters at 19 El-Maahad El-Eshteraky Street, Roxy, Heliopolis, Cairo, while practical training will take place at the Nile Cargo Transport Company garage in Gesr El-Suez.

Drivers can register or request information by email at [email protected] or by phone and WhatsApp at 01022235236.

The initiative is part of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi’s directives to modernize Egypt’s transport sector and improve road safety through investment in human-resource development and professional driver training.

El-Wazir said the programme aims to prepare “a new generation of drivers” with greater awareness, professional discipline, and operational competence capable of handling various driving conditions and contributing to reducing road accidents.

The minister added that the training programme will be provided entirely free of charge as part of the ministry’s efforts to support Egyptian drivers and qualify them according to modern professional standards.

The programme includes theoretical and practical training in safe and professional driving techniques, traffic laws and road signs, preventive vehicle maintenance, handling emergencies, and field-based driving exercises, according to the statement.

It also includes behavioural and psychological awareness sessions focused on professional discipline, in addition to guidance on reducing fuel consumption and vehicle breakdowns.

The ministry said the training will be delivered by specialists in traffic safety, occupational safety, and technical maintenance using modern training methods under the direct supervision of the transport ministry.

Drivers who complete the programme successfully will receive accredited certificates qualifying them for the labour market, while outstanding trainees may also be offered employment opportunities within companies affiliated with the ministry, the statement said.

El-Wazir said the strong turnout and performance levels recorded during the first two phases encouraged the ministry to expand the initiative to additional categories of professional drivers as part of the state’s broader vision to build a safer and more efficient transport system.

The ministry urged drivers holding first-, second-, and third-degree professional licences to register promptly, noting that priority for admission will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Egypt’s Ministry of Transport launched the “Aware Driver… Safe Road” initiative in 2025 as part of broader government efforts to improve road safety, reduce traffic accidents, and raise professional driving standards through specialized training for truck and bus drivers.

The first phase of the initiative graduated 250 drivers in August 2025 out of more than 700 applicants. The programme combined theoretical instruction with practical field exercises to strengthen road safety awareness and improve professional driving behaviour.

According to the latest figures released by Egypt’s Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS), road accident deaths fell by 10.3 percent in 2024 to 5,260 fatalities, down from 5,861 in 2023.

However, the number of road injuries increased by 7.5 percent to 76,362 cases in 2024, compared with 71,016 in 2023, highlighting ongoing safety challenges despite the decline in fatalities.

CAPMAS data showed Cairo recorded the highest number of road accident fatalities in 2024, while Dakahlia registered the highest number of injuries. Pedestrians accounted for the largest share of deaths among road users.
