From (R to L) Egyptian House of Representatives Speaker Hisham Badawi with his Libyan counterpart Aguila Saleh. Ahram.
Badawi made the remarks during a parliamentary session attended by Saleh and centred on Egyptian-Libyan relations.
He said Egypt’s parliament supported Libya’s legislature in what he described as efforts to preserve the country’s institutions and confront regional challenges.
He also said he planned to attend the second conference of the Asian-African Parliamentary Council, scheduled to take place in the Libyan capital, Benghazi, in June.
Badawi said Egypt remained committed to supporting Libya’s unity and stability, adding that developments in Libya directly affected Egyptian national security.
For his part, Saleh praised Egypt’s role in efforts to resolve the Libyan crisis and support the formation of a unified Libyan government.
He said Cairo had hosted rival Libyan parties and worked to bridge divisions between them.
Saleh also thanked Egypt for its continued "unconditional support" for Libya’s sovereignty, security, and stability throughout the conflict.
The visit comes amid ongoing coordination between Cairo and eastern Libyan authorities on political and security issues, as Libya remains divided between rival administrations despite repeated international mediation efforts.
