The EGP 300 million facility is equipped with state-of-the-art medical infrastructure and technology that meet international standards, the statement read.

The hospital, with a total capacity of 200 beds, is designed to provide a wide range of specialized services, including pediatric surgical emergencies; reception, diagnosis, and treatment of surgical cases; neonatal intensive care and incubation for premature infants; intermediate and intensive care units; management of critical cases; and coordination with other medical specialties.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the building is organized across its floors to ensure 24-hour emergency and care services.

The first floor includes the pediatric surgery reception area (with an examination room and five observation beds), a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) room, the general pediatric reception area (with an examination room and 10 observation beds), and a fully equipped surgical unit with two operating rooms for pediatric surgeries.

The second floor contains an inpatient department for emergency cases, along with two intensive care units that were equipped with support from civil society and students of the 38th batch of the Faculty of Medicine.

The third floor includes another inpatient department for emergency admissions.

The fourth and fifth floors are designed as a hotel-style rest area for on-duty physicians, with 36 rooms and a total of 84 beds, along with a cafeteria on each floor serving the wider university hospital complex, which includes five connected university hospitals.

During the hospital's inauguration ceremony on 7 April, the Minister of Higher Education Abdelaziz Konsowa highlighted the important role of university hospitals in providing medical care, supporting scientific research, and advancing medical education.

President of Minya University, Dr. Essam Farahat, said the hospital will provide 24-hour emergency services for children, ensure critical and intermediate care in pediatrics and pediatric surgery, and significantly increase the capacity of the university hospital complex. He added that it will strengthen the system’s ability to handle critical cases efficiently and improve the overall quality of healthcare in the region.

The project reflects Egypt’s ongoing efforts to upgrade university hospitals, increase bed capacity, introduce advanced medical equipment, and apply digital management systems to simplify procedures, improve service efficiency, and raise the overall quality of care in Upper Egypt governorates.
