Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held separate phone calls on Wednesday with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan to discuss regional developments and ongoing US-Iran negotiations, the foreign ministry said.

The talks focused on continued coordination amid rapidly evolving regional tensions and joint efforts to contain the current escalation and prevent the region from sliding into wider confrontation, according to the ministry.

During the calls, FM Abdelatty expressed appreciation for US President Donald Trump’s position in giving dialogue and diplomacy a chance to resolve disputes and spare the region the risks of broader conflict.

The Egyptian foreign minister stressed the “utmost importance” of maintaining the US-Iran negotiation track until a balanced agreement is reached that serves the interests of all parties.

He emphasized that any deal should take into account the security concerns of regional states, particularly the security and stability of Gulf countries, which he described as a cornerstone of Egyptian and Arab national security.

Abdelatty also reiterated the importance of relying fully on diplomacy to resolve disputes in a manner that preserves the region's resources and stability.

Trump said on Wednesday that negotiations with Tehran were “on the borderline” between securing a deal to end the conflict and a possible resumption of strikes on Iran.

Speaking to reporters at Joint Base Andrews near Washington, Trump said the talks could produce an agreement “very quickly, or in a few days,” but warned that military action could resume if Washington did not receive what he described as the “right answers.”

Trump said earlier this week that he had postponed planned strikes on Iran at the request of Gulf states to allow more time for diplomacy.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said on Wednesday that Tehran had received a new US proposal and was reviewing it, while reiterating Iran’s demands for the release of frozen assets abroad and an end to the US blockade on Iranian ports.
