Egypt expressed its deep denunciation of the recurring actions at Al-Aqsa Mosque, describing them as provocative practices that undermine the religious significance of the site and contravene established legal and historical arrangements governing the holy places in Jerusalem, the foreign ministry stated on Monday.
Cairo also condemned the continued Israeli escalation in occupied East Jerusalem and the occupied West Bank, citing ongoing raids, arrests and attacks against Palestinians and their property. Egypt said such actions constitute a clear violation of international law and relevant international legitimacy resolutions.
The foreign ministry warned that these escalating measures risk further inflaming tensions, undermining efforts to achieve calm and stability in the occupied Palestinian territories and across the wider region. Egypt cautioned against any attempts to alter the existing reality in occupied Jerusalem or encroach on religious holy sites.
Egypt renewed its call on the international community to assume its responsibilities in halting ongoing Israeli violations and ensuring respect for the historic and legal status quo of Islamic and Christian holy places in Jerusalem.
The statement stressed that safeguarding Palestinian rights and preserving the status of Jerusalem's holy sites are essential to meeting the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people and contributing to the restoration of security and stability in the region.
