Samia Abbas, Secretary-General of the UAJ; Ambassador Ahmed Haggag, Adviser to the UAJ; members of the Board of Trustees, Ambassador Mohamed Hegazy, Ezzat Ibrahim, Ahmed Ayoub, Maher Abdel Aziz, and Ayman Adly; as well as Zeinab Helmy, Director of Training Programs at the UAJ, were all in attendance.
During the meeting, Farahat underscored the important role the UAJ played in strengthening media cooperation among African countries and addressing the continent’s shared challenges through awareness, development, and collective action.
He stressed that the coming period requires a professional, responsible, and forward-looking media capable of supporting stability and sustainable development across Africa, noting that this places significant responsibility on media institutions and journalists throughout the continent.
Farahat also emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation and coordination among African media organizations to enhance the visibility of African issues and advance the continent’s development agenda.
He also expressed his appreciation to veteran journalist Mahfouz Al-Ansary, the union's former president, in recognition of his dedicated service and valuable contributions to strengthening the organization’s presence and activities across Africa.
The meeting reviewed the UAJ's plans and programmes to expand media cooperation, professional training, and capacity-building initiatives, through organizing conferences and workshops, to support journalists and media professionals across the continent and equip them with the skills needed to navigate the rapidly evolving media landscape.
The discussions also focused on strengthening partnerships with media institutions throughout Africa, promoting the exchange of expertise and best practices, and building a stronger and more influential African media sector capable of effectively representing the continent’s interests and aspirations.
Concluding the meeting, Farahat thanked members of the Board of Trustees and the UAJ's leadership for their continued support and commitment. He reaffirmed the union’s determination to strengthen its role as a leading African media platform that supports development, regional integration, and greater understanding among African peoples, while promoting awareness of the continent’s key issues through the efforts of Africa’s media and journalistic community.
