German filmmaker Harun Farocki will screen a selection of his productions and deliver a series of talks in Cairo. This four-day programme follows a two-week workshop with Farocki and Antje Ehmann entitled 'Labour in a single shot',  which focuses on creating a film tackling labour issues.

Known for his experimental documentaries since 1969, Harun Farocki delves into matters of modernisation, labour, and alternative ways of perception. In his films and installations, he acts as a critical observer, raising controversial questions including social coexistence, power relations, warfare and the threat of capitalisation in today's world. The artist brings his different "ways of seeing" to a Cairo audience.

The talks and discussion programmes will delve into a number of topics that are of great importance to the contemporary media scene in Egypt, such as the representation of labour movements in the media, the activities of rights movements, the role of documentation and filming in the shadow of revolution, and the question of the supremacy of form over content in terms of coverage of such events.

Panellists and speakers include Lina Attalah, Jano Charbel, Shahir George Ishaq, Ute Holl, Philip Rizk and Ahmad Shokr.

How We See is organised in collaboration with the Goethe Institut, CIC and Cimatheque and the Rosa-Luxemburg-Foundation.
