Zamalek goalkeeper Ahmed El-Shennawy will undergo a knee surgery Thursday after sustaining an injury during the Pharaohs camp in the United Arab Emirates.
“El-Shennawy will return back to Cairo from Abu Dhabi with Egypt national team and will undergo the surgery in his knee cartridge next Thursday,” Zamalek doctor was quoted as saying on the club’s official website.
Ehennawy, who is on loan at Cairo’s Zamalek from Port Said-based club Masry, is supposed to miss the green for at least one month.
The 22-year-old was carried off by his teammates after sustaining the injury. One day before Egypt met the Ivory Coast in a friendly game Monday that ended 4-2 for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winning favorites.

The world most capped player Ahmed Hassan has praised Ahmed Eid Abdel-Malek who has signed for Zamalek from Haras El-Hodoud.
“Abdel-Malek is a loyal player and he loves Zamalek. He will play an important role in returning the team back to winning days,” the Pharaohs skipper told Zamalek official website.
The 32-year-old player, whose contract with the military club expires in June 2013, signed a two-and-a-half year deal for 700,000 EGP ($106,669) to the club.
