Advisory council will focus on healthcare services and facilitating money transfers, President Morsi says during meeting in Khartoum

Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi announced on Friday that he would establish an advisory council dedicated to the affairs of Egyptian expatriates.

During a meeting with expatriates in Khartoum, the president said the proposed council would focus on including Egyptians living abroad in the national healthcare system and facilitating the transfer of their savings to Egypt.

Morsi said he would discuss the problem of money transfers with Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir.

Egyptian expatriates have been more vocal since the January 25 uprising. In October 2011, a historic court ruling permitted Egyptian expatriates to vote in embassies during national polls.

President Morsi arrived in Sudan for a two-day visit on Thursday.

The number of Egyptians living abroad is around eight million, according to a report issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2012.
