Ayman Al-Zawahiri calls on Muslims to liberate their lands from oppressive regimes and foreign forces, warms France over Mali intervention

Al-Qaeda leader Ayman Al-Zawahiri has called on the 'Arab Spring' countries to form a united Islamic state.

In an audio recording broadcasted online and by ABC News agency on Sunday, Zawahiri urged Muslims to liberate their lands from oppressive regimes and foreign forces.

He also called on Muslims to implement Sharia law, end the plunder of Muslim wealth, support Muslims facing discrimination and build an Islamic caliphate.

Zawahiri also condemned French intervention in Mali, saying the European nation would suffer the same fate as the United States in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The Al-Qaeda leader's previous broadcast was in November when he urged Muslims to join the ranks of fighters in Somalia.
