Greek President Karolos Papoulias has rewarded the country's prestigious Order of the Republic to Egyptian professor Abdel-Moati Sharawi for the latter's academic contributions to the field of classical and contemporary Greek studies.
Sharawi is a professor at Cairo University's faculty of humanities.
Greek Ambassador to Egypt Chris Lazaris announced the move on Monday during the embassy's celebrations of Greek Independence Day.
Sharawi earned a Bachelor Degree from Cairo University's faculty of humanities in 1956 and a PhD from the British Univeristy of Bristol in 1967.
