Cantona was banned for eight months in 1995 for leaping over the advertising hoardings and kicking a Crystal Palace supporter in the chest after being sent off in a Premier League match.

The former France striker has labeled the incident as one of the highlights of his controversial career, saying it gave him a “great feeling.”

Cantona tells the BBC “I think maybe it’s like a dream for some (fans), you know sometimes to kick these kind of people. So I did it for them. So they are happy. It’s a kind of freedom for them.”

Cantona recently became director of football with the group behind the proposed rebirth of the New York Cosmos.
