Egyptian Democratic Labour Congress to hold first conference

Independent trade union founded after January 25 Revolution is to hold its first conference in Cairo on Wednesday

The Egyptian Democratic Labour Congress (EDLC) will hold its first conference in Cairo on Wednesday.

The EDLC was launched after the January 25 Revolution and is one of two independent trade unions in the country.

Representatives of various international labour unions will attend the conference, including a representative of International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) which represents 174 million workers in 156 countries and territories.

Representative from the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) and the ILO are also expected to attend.

Italian, Danish, Spanish and Arab trade unions will send representatives as well.
