Former minister of social affairs and the first Egyptian female to be given an ambassadorial post, Aisha Rateb, died Saturday at the age of 85 in her home in Giza as a result of a grave health crisis.
Rateb became Egypt's first-ever female minister, in charge of social affairs during the Sadat era.
After resigning from her post in protest over the president's response to the 1977 'bread uprising' protests, Sadat reshuffled her as ambassador to Denmark.
