Seven Egyptian pilgrims died and 17 were severely injured when their bus overturned near Mecca in Saudi Arabia Wednesday, the state news agency MENA reported.
The bus was travelling on a coastal road connecting Yanbu with Jeddah when the accident took place. The victims were on their way to Mecca to perform the Umrah pilgrimage.
The fatalities include five women and two men, MENA said.
One of the injured is reportedly in a very serious condition.
The injured were transported to two nearby hospitals, said the consul general in Jeddah, Adel El-Alfy.
