The Cairo Symphony Orchestra, under the conduction of Czech Maestro Jiri Petrdlik, will give its regular Saturday concert on 15 June in the Cairo Opera House's main hall.
The programme of the evening will feature the works of a number of French artists, including Arthur Honegger's Pacific 231, Claude Debussy's Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune (Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun), Paul Dukas' L'apprenti sorcier (The Sorcerer's Apprentice) and Hector Berlioz's Harold in Italy – Symphony with Solo Viola, Op. 16.
The soloist of the evening will be Czech violist Zuzana Perinova.
Egypt has witnessed an increase in artists from the Czech Republic over the past months due to the Czech embassy's focus on its artistic sector.
Petrdlik served as the orchestra's artistic director and principal conductor during the 2012/2013 season. He performs with the orchestra roughly once a month and last performed in Cairo this past April.
The 15 June concert will be the final collaboration between the Cairo Symphony Orchestra and Petrdlik this season. The symphonic season ends on 29 June with a celebration of the bicentennial of Giuseppe Verdi’s birth, conducted by Nayer Nagui.
