Cairo giants Zamalek are hoping to get their first important summer signing after bidding for Ismaily striker Ahmed Ali.
According to Ahram Sports, the White Knights have tabled a LE1.5 million offer for the 27-year-old striker.
Cash-strapped Ismaily have already announced that Ali is on the market as the former Egypt striker, whose contract ends in the summer of 2014, refused to ink a new deal.
The Dervishes said they will sell him to the highest bidder, whether that is a local or a foreign club.
Zamalek hope to strengthen their front line after the departure of Burkinabe striker Abdoulaye Cisse who has been the star man upfront over the past few months.
Renowned for his arial ability and physical play, Ali will surely provide a challenge for Ahmed Gaafar, who is currently the only reliable striker in Zamalek’s squad.
He would also be a big help for Zamalek in their quest for a sixth African Champions League title; he is eligible to play in the continent’s elite showdown as Ismaily declined to play in any African competitions this year due to the club’s financial woes.
