Fiorentina's Egyptian defender Ahmed Hegazy will not be able to play with the Serie A side in their European group-stage campaign after the club dropped him from their squad for the Europa League.
The Italian side's 21-men squad , which was submitted to UEFA on Tuesday, was devoid of the towering central defender, who has been plagued by injuries since joining Fiorentina in the summer of 2012.
Hegazy is nursing a knee injury he sustained while on international duty. He is facing a month on sidelines.
The 21-year-old missed the second half of last season after rupturing a cruciate knee ligament in December.
Fiorentina reached the Europa League's groups stage at the expense of Swiss side Grasshopper. They were drawn in Group E along with FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk, FC Paços de Ferreira and CS Pandurii Târgu Jiu.
