Ahly's new-signing Ahmed Khairy will undergo back surgery in Germany after efforts to avoid the operation failed, the club said on Monday.
Khairy, who joined Ahly last summer from Ismaily, missed the team's training during the past three weeks due to back pains.
"Khairy will undergo back surgery in Germany," Ahly's doctor told the club's official website on Monday.
"The duration of his absence will be determined after the operation," he added.
The 26-year-old underwent back surgery after suffering a slipped disc four years ago, which sidelined him for around six months.
According to Ahly's doctor, the player refused to undergo medical tests before joining the Cairo giants last summer.
