Garana trial begins today

The former tourism minister stands accused of abusing his power to benefit associates

The trial of Zuheir Garana, the former minister of tourism begins today in the North Cairo Criminal Court.

Garana is accused of giving licenses to tourism agencies owned by people close to him, despite a ministerial decision which banned the granting of these licenses. He is also accused of taking advantage of his position to play favorites with certain companies in the tourism sector and taking ministerial decisions for their benefit.
