Trains resumed operations between Cairo and Upper Egypt Saturday after a 100-day halt.
Head of Egypt's Railway Authority Hussein Zakaria told Al-Ahram Arabic news website that trains heading to Upper Egypt would depart Saturday, returning to Cairo Sunday.
"Starting Monday, 14 trains will be operating daily to cover the governorates of Beni Sueif, Minya, Assiut, Sohag, Luxor and Aswan, back and forth," added Zakaria.
Train services into and out of Cairo were halted mid-August after widespread unrest following the bloody dispersal of pro-Morsi sit-in camps in Cairo and Giza.
In October, 28 services between the capital and the Mediterranean city of Alexandria were resumed.
Currently, 56 of a total of 188 services between Cairo and nationwide destinations have been resumed.
The Railway Authority has lost LE4 million daily since the stoppage began.
Under normal conditions, Egypt's railway service transports around 500 million passengers annually, a rate of 1.4 million per day, according to the Railway Authority website.
