After beating Masry 2-0 in the first matchday of the Egyptian Premier League Wednesday, Zamalek coach Helmy Toulan expressed his pleasure at winning the game and praised the performance of his team's players.
"Zamalek played a one-sided game against Masry as we dominated them throughout the game," Toulan was quoted as saying on the club's website.
Masry had to thank goalkeeper Ahmed El-Shennawy for producing some flying saves, but Zamalek were worthy winners after scoring two late goals.
"We failed to score in six scoring chances, so we could beat them with a huge margin," he added.
Ahmed Eid converted a penalty on 70 minutes and substitute striker Ahmed Ali finished off a breakaway with five minutes remaining to help Zamalek to an opening win as they aim to win their first league title since 2004.
Despite the absence of several key players, including influential forwards Shikabala, Mohamed Ibrahim and goalkeeper Abdel-Wahed El-Sayed, Zamalek looked the livelier side thanks to their recent participation in the Egypt Cup that appears to have kept them fresh.
"Zamalek players are responsible, as they won despite several players' absence," the Zamalek coach concluded.
