Breaking News: Mohamed Radwan released

Ahram Online, Friday 1 Apr 2011

Family of Egyptian-American Mohamed Radwan detained by Syrian authorities since 25 March confirmed to Ahram Online his release on Friday.

They say Radwan has called them from the Egyptian Embassy in Damscus informing them of the news.

The 32 year-old Egyptian-American Radwan was among those arrested on 25 March by Syrian authorities during pro- and anti-government clashes in the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus.

The Syrian press has insinuated Radwan was a spy, with an article from the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) saying he had “visited Israel in secret and confessed to receiving money from abroad in exchange for sending photos and videos of Syria”. However, no official charges were made against Radwan.

Demonstrations were held in Cairo in front of the Syrian embassy demanding his release.
