Ghana's coach Avram Grant said on Monday that he is looking to win next year's African Cup of Nation, though he acknowledges that his side's mission will not be easy as they compete against other countries who share the same dream.
The Black Stars were close to winning the African title in 2015 but lost the final to Ivory Coast on goal kicks.
"We have an AFCON coming up and our target is clear," Grant was quoted as saying by Ghanasoccernet.
“I always want to finish my contract, and in my contract I was asked to win the AFCON.”
The former Chelsea coach added that now is the time to focus on the continental tournament, asking Ghanaians to forget about the World Cup qualifiers at this stage.
Grant is under fire due to the Black Stars' shaky performance in the World Cup qualifiers, where the team lay third in their group with a single point, five points behind group leaders Egypt.
“In football, you cannot think beyond two or three months, so let’s do what we need to do in the AFCON before we think about the next step,” he said.
In the Nations Cup, Ghana will play in group G with Egypt, Uganda and Mali.
