Uganda will only play to win against Egypt in the African Cup of Nations, according to coach Sebastien Desabre, who confessed that the Pharaohs are better than his team.

Egypt, the record seven-time African champions, will be hosting the Ugandan team on Sunday at Cairo Stadium in the final round of the prestigious tournament’s group stage.

"The match will be difficult, but we will play only to win and end the group stage as the group leaders," Desabre said in the pre-match press conference on Saturday.

"Egypt’s team is better than Zimbabwe and DR Congo, and it was normal for them to win the two games, especially after reaching the World Cup finals last year.

"On the other hand, Uganda’s team is enthusiastic and plays with high spirit.

"The fans' presence will be a big boost for Egypt, but this won't prevent us from doing our best to win and achieve a big surprise," he added.

Uganda won their opening match 2-0 against DR Congo, before the 1-1 draw with Zimbabwe in the second match.

Egypt defeated Zimbabwe 1-0 in the opening match before beating DR Congo 2-0 in the second test.

Egypt, who top Group A with a maximum six points from two matches, need just a draw against Uganda (second with four points) to ensure their progress as the group leaders.

"We should avoid any mistakes in tomorrow's game. We can go far in the tournament if we concentrate and avoid mistakes," said Desabre, who previously worked in Egypt as coach of coastal club Ismaily.

"I am not worried about the Egypt match. There is a difference between the first two matches and tomorrow's game. We got everything we need through watching Egypt's last match against DR Congo and our players are motivated to win.

With Javier Aguirre at the helm, the Pharaohs are optimistic about winning the precious title of AFCON champions for the first time since 2010, the last of their record seven victories.
